The State Mine Fire near Lithgow is one of the first major bushfires in NSW for the 2013/2014 bushfire season.
On 17 October the fire was burning out of control in the Marrangaroo Army range and the Newnes State Forest north of Lithgow and came to the doorstep of the Lithgow State Mine Museum. More than 100 firefighters and volunteers pulled together as one team to combat the worst fire to engulf the hills surrounding the Lithgow Valley since 2003 when fire spread along the ridges above Sheedy’s Gully.
Ray Christison and others captured the fire’s approach to the Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park and aftermath.
